X-CYCLONE® air cleaner on drilling platforms in the oil and gas industry

In the past few years, several British and Scandinavian companies from the oil and gas industry have decided to use X-CYCLONE® air cleaner from REVEN®. To date, all drilling rigs have had major environmental problems during the drilling process. The drilling mud, which is excavated during drilling, is collected in large mud tanks of the shale shakers* on the drilling platforms. Due to the high temperatures and the coolants of the drilling mud and the high levels of crude oil in the drilling mud, large amounts of oil mist rise from these mud tanks.

This oil mist has in the past simply been sucked off and blown into the environment via huge hoods that were placed above this mud tanks. The cooling of this exhaust air, which was blown into the environment, caused this oil mist to condense in the exhaust air and settle on the sea surface in the immediate vicinity of the drilling platforms. To avoid this environmentally negative process in the future, several British and Scandinavian oil and gas companies are equipping their offshore drilling systems on their rigs with X-CYCLONE® air cleaner. * Shale shakers are components of drilling equipment used in oil and gas drilling. Drilling fluids are integral to the drilling process and, among other functions, serve to lubricate and cool the drill bit. These fluids are a mixture of various chemicals in a water or oil based solution and can be very expensive to make. For both environmental reasons and to reduce the cost of drilling operations, drilling fluid losses are minimised by using for example X-CYCLONE® air cleaner.
