In comparison: fluorescent tube vs. LED used in contemporary kitchen ventilation 4.0

Light-emitting diodes are the future, the advantages are obvious: long-lasting, economical and lower power consumption. LEDs contribute therefore to the energy transition. The low power consumption also produces less harmful carbon dioxide emissions during power generation, thus reducing the CO2 balance of the LED fluorescent tube.
But the LED fluorescent tubes can do even more. A comparison of the TEC Institute* shows the huge advantages of LED fluorescent tubes compared to conventional fluorescent tubes:

– Less failure after switching cycles
– 5 times longer lifetime
– LED tubes require 70% less electricity
– LED tubes are 100% maintenance free

Design requirements for LED lighting in commercial kitchens

Integrated lighting in kitchen ventilation systems must be designed in accordance with EN 16282 Part 2. In EN 16282 Part 2 it is noted in 5.9 that the lighting requirements must also comply with EN 12464. Thus, in this European standard EN 12464 it is repeatedly pointed out that the lighting must be designed to be controllable. This means that both a reasonable light management and a lighting design according to these European standards has to be done.

What such a modern LED lighting in commercial kitchens can look like, you can see in the shown pictures of article. All lights are designed with modern REVEN LEDs!

Like the car windshields, the REVEN LED glass covers are a laminated glass, that means a combination of glass panes and very temperature- and oil-resistant plastic films. For the construction of the REVEN glass covers, a tear-resistant and visco-elastic plastic film is used, thus the risk of falling glass splinters, even under extreme loads and destruction as good as ruled out, see the following pictures – a really extreme weight loading of an already completely splintered glass cover 😉

Therefore chose the REVEN-LED lamps as an alternative to conventional fluorescent light tubes and reduce electricity costs by 50 – 70%. If for example, the lighting is not carried out with 50 conventional fluorescent tubes in a large commercial kitchen with a ventilated ceiling, but the lighting would be alternatively done with modern LED systems with the latest technology, the return of the additional investment for the LEDs is just 2.5 years. This requires the use of modern LED modules. These modules of the latest LED generation are robust against vibrations, can be dimmed infinitely and are very suitable for high switching frequencies. The electricity costs can be reduced by about 50 – 70% compared to fluorescent tubes, because the LEDs consume less electricity. Due to the maintenance-free operation over many years, an upgrade is worthwhile despite the higher acquisition costs. In 5 years, savings of up to € 20,000 can be achieved in such a ventilation ceiling!

Further advantages are: REVEN-LEDs offer their full light output immediately after switching on, without flickering and ensure a very good color reproduction. The technology has a significantly lower CO2 emission than conventional light sources and has no UV and no infrared components. Using a standard DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) driver, a sensible light management is easily realised, because each LED lamp can be individually controlled.

Attention should also be paid to Regulation (EC) No 245/2009 and Regulation No 347/2010 laying down requirements for the environmentally design of lighting products. These regulations have been adopted by the European Commission as an implementation measure of the Ecodesign Directive, and the use of most conventional fluorescent lamps and ballasts is no longer permitted under this regulation!
